Dr. Knezek and Dr. Christensen presented their paper Relationships Among Student Classroom Use of Technology for Learning and Teacher Home Use of Technology, Teacher Level of Technology Integration and Number of Years of Participation in a STEM Program.

Aubrey Middle School (Aubrey, TX), Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High School (Pittsburg, CA) and New Joseph Bonnheim Charter School (Sacramento, CA) were added to our MSOSW teacher education program.

2017 STEM Forum & Expo

Drs. Knezek and Christensen presented their paper, Going Green! Development of an Online Teacher Institute for Implementing a Hands-On Climate Change Curriculum, at the 6th Annual STEM Forum & Expo, hosted by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).

October 7, 2016  TAMS (Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science) research assistants in Design Research Laboratory supporting Going Green! Middle Schoolers Out to Save the World and NASA Heliophysics Education Consortium projects. 
July 25-28, 2016  Drs. Knezek and Christensen were Keynote Speakers at the 16th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT) in Austin, TX., (July 25-28, 2016). They presented on, "Learning Technologies from the Frontier to the Future: Preparing New Generations for Life in a Global Spotlight,"and "Effect of Energy Monitoring Activities on Climate Change Beliefs and Intentions: Replication of Findings at Multiple Project Locations".

The Going Green! Middle Schoolers Out to Save the World Advisory Board team met in Washington D.C., to review feedback, and explore future recommendations for the project.  

March 24, 2016 

SITE 2016 Keynote Speaker, Bob Hirshon, from the American Assoc. of the Advancement of Science, presented findings and ideas from a recent study funded by the National Science Foundation, on how to make learning activities more accessible for children with "variabilities" in learning. Bob is on the advisory board for the Going Green! project.

February 19, 2016 

 

Dr.Knezek and Dr.Christensen visited project participating teacher, Cindy Barnes's classroom at Good Shepherd Episcopal School in Dallas, TX. The Middle School students actively participated in  the curriculum's Standby power activities using their Belkin devices. Additionally, students had the opportunity to test the new Whyville App.

The 2015 Going Green! MSOSW Advisory Board was held in Chicago, IL at O’Brien’s Restaurant & Bar.  In attendance were (from right): Dr. Christopher Dede, Cindy Barnes, Dr. Lisa Grable, Lesley Leach, Dr. Gerald Knezek, Dr. Bob Hirshon, Dr. Tandra Tyler-Wood, Dr. Rhonda Christensen and Lynn Farrin.

 

March 2-6, 2015 

 

Dr. Gerald Knezek and Dr. Rhonda Christensen were awarded a SITE 2015 Outstanding Paper Award for their paper entitled, “Measuring 21st Century Skills in Technology Educators” at the 2015 SITE Conference in Las Vegas, NV. The project investigators also met with Dr. David Gibson, a Going Green! MSOSW Advisory Board Member.

Dr. Tandra Tyler-Wood, Dr. Rhonda Christensen and Dr. Gerald Knezek attended the 2015 HICE conference and presented their paper on “Dispositions of Teachers in STEM Enrichment Programs.” They also met with Dr. John Park, a Going Green! MSOSW advisory board member.

 

December 8-9, 2-14 

 

The IITTL team traveled to Turrentine Middle School and Graham Middle School in North Carolina for Going Green! MSOSW site visits. While there, they met with Going Green! MSOSW participating teachers, Katrina Zimmerman and Dayson Pasion.

Dr. Rhonda Christensen, Dr. Tandra  Tyler-Wood  and Dr. Gerald Knezek visited with Troy Cline and Leslie Garrison at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Plans were discussed to hold the 2015 Going Green! MSOSW Summer Teacher Training Institute on NASA’s premises in Greenbelt, MD.

Numedeon, Inc., the creator of Whyville, serves as IITTL’s subcontractors during years 1-3 of the Going Green! Middle Schoolers Out to Save the World (MSOSW) grant. Numedeon, Inc. will be incorporating energy monitoring and STEM Career interest aspects into the virtual educational world of Whyville for students, teachers and Whyville users.
