IITTL Directors, Dr. Gerald Knezek and  Dr. Rhonda Christensen serve as UNT representatives to NASA's science activation team  - one part of IITTL's role in NASA's Space Science Education Consortium (NSSEC) - formerly the Heliophysics Education Consortium (HEC).

The HEC Becomes the NSSEC

To broaden the focus on space science rather than solely heliophysics, the Heliophysics Education Consortium (HEC) and been renamed the NASA Space Science Education Consortium (NSSEC). This change reflects the misson of building interest and awaremess for all space sciences. 

August 31, 2017 Eclipse Composite

UNT Graduate Student's Eclipse Account

Sameehan S. Joshi, a graduate student in UNT's Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering was provided solar glasses to allow him and his wife to observe the total eclipse. He captured an incredible sequence of the event and shared the experience with IITTL and NASA.

IITTL Supported Eclipse Observations

IITTL, in cooperation with NASA, was involved with several eclipse observation events around the U.S. to promote space science and gather participant reactions.

July 10-14, 2017 SciQuest Camp at Dallas Arboretum

Dallas Arboretum SciQuest Summer Camp

Campers experienced STEM through VR, AR, 3D printing, and other innovative technologies. UNT IITTL contributed as part of the continuing work with NASA and theHEC.

May 17, 2017  Space Science Follow-Up Visit to Sanger ISD

Space Science Follow-Up Visit

IITTL traveled to Sanger ISD to do a follow-up visit with the students that participated in the February 11th space science camp to access the continuing impact of the event of understanding and interest.

April 27-28, 2017 STAR School Visit

STAR School Visit

Drs. Knezek and Christensen visited the STAR School in Arizona. They collected key baseline data related to space science and STEM awareness and interest, as part of IITTL's ongoing  work with NASA.

March 27, 2017  Silhouette Printer and Cutter

Dallas Arboretum Gets Silhouette

In preparation for the SciQuest summer camp, UNT's IITTL delivered and set up a Silhouette design printer/cutter to the Dallas Arboretum. The device will be used in creating 2D models and various design creations by students.

Members of UNT's IITTL met with educators at the Dallas Arboretum to discuss their collaboration with the upcoming SciQuest summer camp.

Space Science Camp

20 sixth-grade students from Sanger ISD were selected to attend a hands-on space science camp at UNT's Discovery Park campus presented by IITTL as part of their work with NASA to promote STEM interests.
