NASA Heliophysics presentation in Sanger, Texas on April 5, 2024. Sanger Sixth Grade Campus, Sanger Independent School District. NASA presenters included Michael S. F. Kirk, Research Astrophysicist, Christina Milotte, Education Specialist, and J. Patrick Haas, Electronics Engineer. NASA's Heliophysics Education Activation Team (HEAT) from Goddard Space Flight Center visted for a series of engaging discussions during the "eclipse weekend" in the DFW Metroplex. Dr. Michael Kirk explained the workings of the Sun and its influence on our solar system. The conversation highlighted the significance of heliophysics, especially in light of the 2024 Total Eclipse, and its long-term importance to society. Hosted by Dr. Gerald Knezek, Regents Professor / Co-Director of IITTL, in the Department of Learning Technologies.

This presentation by astrophysicist/author Jeffrey Bennett — creator of the free “Totality" app — will help you get the most out of this awe-inspiring event. Using the app and his book, Totality: An Eclipse Guide in Rhyme and Science, Dr. Bennett will help you understand the science behind eclipses and help you plan your eclipse-watching experience.

Pathway to a Post-Global Warming Future — A Brief Overview of Climate Science, Consequences, and Solutions
The media often portrays our climate future as a choice between bleak and bleaker, which may seem justified given the many impacts of global warming that we are already seeing. But it doesn't have to be that way, because if we understand the science behind global warming, then we can also see a pathway to its solution. In this presentation, astrophysicist/author Jeffrey Bennett will give you a brief overview of the surprisingly simple basic science behind global warming and of the consequences we can expect from this warming. He will then explain how we can in principle take the steps necessary to envision a “post-global warming” future, meaning a future in which today's children will someday be able to talk about global warming as a once-serious problem that we found a way to solve.
